Subarus have Subaru engines, Porsche Boxters have Boxter engines. They all happen to be boxers, but Subies never have Boxter engines, unless they've been swapped.

It's impossible to change the rod without completely pulling the block apart. Since it's horizontally opposed, you'll have to actually seperate the block itself into right and left halves. So, yes, you'll have to pull the engine.

It's possible to stick a 2.5 turbo block in with the 2 liter heads, but you bump up compression. In order to swap the 2.0 for a 2.5, you're looking at some nasty wiring. Would be easier to grab a 2.0 STI block off ebay and swap that in.

The 2002-2005 WRX has the EJ207, the 2006-present WRX has the EJ255, the STi always has an EJ257, and all other 2.5 liter turbo motors are EJ255's. The non turbo 2.5 is either EJ251 (phase I DOHC), EJ 253, or the odd EJ252, both of wihch are SOHC.
