I have a '94 lumina 170,000 miles that chugs when driving it and eventually will die on me. The problem started about a month ago and gradually got worse and the check engine light started to come on more often. It seems to die more often when slowing down at an intersection or pulling into a driveway. I took it to a mechanic and he told me his diagnostics said it was either the icm and or the ecm. i replaced the icm first and it was still doing the same thing so i used a paper clip in the obd port thing under the streeing wheel and it gave me a code 42 and i heard somewhere that was an ecm problem. so i replaced that also and now no check engine light and no codes but its still chugging then dying.
