I have a 2000 Xterra XE 4x4 V6 with an automatic transmission. I am experiencing a couple of interesting quirks and I was wondering if these are normal or signs of a potential issue. First, when I am driving at speeds of 40-50 mph and I let off the gas to coast, when I get back on the gas there is an ever-so-slight clunk, and sometimes a very subtle vibration. These are both very subtle and only happen occasionally. I have been told that it is somewhat common and is likely due to slack in the transfer case, which seems reasonable but I am not sure. Second, when I stop the vehicle occasionally there is a clunk heard beneath me. This too is very subtle, but agian I am not sure. The vehicle has 115k miles on it, so I am wondering if this is just normal for the age. The transmission shifts through all the gears well with no slipping or shuddering. Thanks for any insight. I am new to the forum.
