What book did you copy that out of? VERY few systems use LEDs due to the fact that any dust/dirt/grease buildup will affect system performance. Almost all are magnetic, but do work basically that way.

I would not replace a sensor as maintenance, especially on some vehicles where timing belt removal is required.
