I dont know what your trying to get across by saying your having a tough time, but I assume you mean trying to find value for your bucks ?
In your price range it's all about CONDITION, Make - model - year - miles becomes secondary, for starters read this link http://www.usedcartips.org/TESTDRI.html it will help you to know what to look for, you wont become an expert overnight, but you will pick up a few pointers.
