You should be able to test the starter by using the starter relay. If there is a relay pack and your not sure which one, look at the wiring colors. red with yellow stripe--- brown--- yellow--- black with yellow stripe. If you run B+ to the terminal for the brown wire, using a jumper, the starter should crank. If you try this, make sure the tranny is in park or neutral and the e-brake is set.

Unplug the starter relay, turn on the key, just till the dash-lites come on, use the jumper. The vehicle may start, again, make sure the tranny is out of gear. You could also check for hot circuits at the relay connector, with the key turned to crank. Whatever tests you try, be careful.

I wanted to add, if the vehicle starts using the jumper, just remove the jumper, the jumper is only used to crank the starter.
