Ermesinde is a Portuguese city located in the municipality of Valongo. It has a population of about 40,000 inhabitants and an area of about 7.6 kmē. This means that although being the smallest of the civil parishes in Valongo's municipality, it's the most highly populated with a density of more than 5000/kmē.
In the beginning the city was a riverside village. After the railway was built, it became a rail worker city. The two most important railroads in northern Portugal meet in Ermesinde.
