Does the car buck like a stick shift when you forget to push in the clutch coming to a stop? If so, the torque converter lock-up is sticking and not unlocking the converter.
Get the car scanned to see what triggered the CEL. It may be just because the engine is lugging and about to stall, but double check in case it has stored a hard code. Being a 94, which is a crossover/hybrid GM diagnostics system, your car could have the 12 pin or 16 pin ALDL connector,. This car may not be able to be scanned by the tools used at Advance and Auto Zone where they scan for free, so you may have to take it to a shop to have it scanned.
