A tensioner could induce bearing failure by allowing the belt to whip rather than run under consistent tension.

A lower intake leak should show up on the timing cover, not under the water pump. I just had a '95 Lumina with a LIM gasket leak today (yes, Sunday). I was hoping it was a water pump, since I couldn't get gaskets today. No luck for me, but you might be good with a new water pump and verifying a good belt and tensioner.
