98 Monte Carlo Z34 low compression cylinder

My 98 Monte Carlo z34 overheated not long ago and the dealership said that my #3 cylinder is running at a little more than half of total compression. i don't know if i cracked the cylinder or just blew a gasket. the car runs fine (with a rough idle) until the cylinder decides to flood out and the car dies and takes a while to crank back up. i'm curious if there is a quick, cheap, temporary fix to this? i'm a college student in a small town and just need a ride to class and back without worring about stalling out everyday. thanks for the help.
