Flepro gaskets are considered the best for production engines. We prefer Permatex "Aviation" sealer in most places for water. Silicone is for the corners ONLY. That is, where parts come together, like the intake/heads/block. The more silicone (we call it "bubba-cone") you use, the better the chances it will leak. So use it SPARINGLY!
Get a service manual so you don't do a bunch of extra work, and so you don't break anything you may need later...
