I use SuperClean. It's a very strong degreaser that will get under the paint, strip chrome, but won't harm plastic. I buy it at the local WalMart, in the automotive section.

Find a plastic container and fill it until the body can be completely submerged. Check on it after a day or so and you'll see the paint comming off. Try not to get it on your hands as it will dry them out quickly.

There are other systems for removing paint and I'm sure you'll get excellent advice on those, too.
