it is because if you face it the other way, the turbine(exhaust side would be too big) and it won't clear the block. i am currently in final stages of my project and have experienced the problem. still, my wastegate on my turbo will not clear the block, i need to make adapter plate that positions turbo out about 2 inches from the block so it would clear my power steering and motor mount bracket. instead of the hole in the adapter plate, it has to be a big angle cut hole, don't know if that will flow too good. oh well.

what we did was grind down the motor mount a little....
I can get you a manifold that is angled out to clear the block, but cannot use with AC
