First of all... the two tails are different in that where the trunk/hatch tail meets the outer tail, the line where they meet is at a different angle. Also... the outer tail lens has a curve to it that wraps around to the side. This curvature is different on the hatchback and coupe/sedan styles. The hatchback has a slow, long curve while the coupe/sedan ones have a faster, sharp curve to it.
I appologize because I'm having a difficult time explaining it through words... but just believe me. I've tried putting sedan tails in my hatchback before... there's quite a difference.
