But seriously, the Eclipse is based on the Gallant, a car we get a lot of down here, especialy the VR4 from Japan, which uses the same 4G63 used in the Turbo Eclipse.
And a long with the higher hp engine the cars come equiped with bigger brakes, and differnt suspension, (as well as 4WD).
The important parts here however are brakes, and suspension.
Quite simply, and this is a problem the guys in the states who do engine swaps into thier Honda's have, by putting a significantly higher hp engine into a car than standard you also have to worry about how the rest of the cars performance will be effected.
i.e. when throwing a Turbo on a non-Turbo model eclipse you need to worry about things like brakes and suspension.
I dont know for sure, (haveing never seen an exlipse as they were never sold here) but I reackon that like all of Mitsi's other models, the Turbo eclipses have bigger brakes and differnt suspension tuning than the non-Turbo models.
So in order to make the non Turbo car as fast as the Turbo model you also need to upgrade brakes and suspension. (since a car that cant stop or go around corners is pretty useless)
Also the 4g63 is one of the strongest 4cly engines avliable, and is open to a lot of tuning potential (see post above) and despite being around since the late 80s it is still used in the new EVO VII and I wouldn't be surprised if its still around in the next model. Any of Mitsi's other 4cly engines are well, yeah, their ok, but not an engine I would choose to make lots of hp.
