My wifes 01' is doing something similar. She went to start it & it cranked a few seconds, then fired up. I'm used to this problem on my 94' Cavalier & it's always the coil packs. So i checked the wires & one was bad. I ended up replacing the cap, rotor, wires. Ran out of money so i haven't replaced the plugs yet. That's this weekends project. Anyways it fired up right away the first day, after that she starts it up & it cranks for a few seconds then starts, she went shopping & it started right up for her. If you're in & out of it alot it'll start great. Drive it & an hour or 2 later it takes a few seconds to start. Her remote start takes 2 trys to start. Fuel pump kicks on when turning the key forward. Going to get a pressure gauge to check fuel pressure. Besides the other things mention in other replies could it also be the ignition coil, module, ignition switch? If it's the fuel pump i'll drop the tank myself & do it.
