Solenoids and TCU's usually don't cause slippage and dropping out of gear...usually more along the line of skipping gears or stuck in wrong range...

Check the detent cable (cable from throttle body to tranny valve body) if it has one (I don't know on a '93)...detent cable misadjustment or breakage can make them do crazy stuff, and not react correctly to throttle input...
