At some point in time you might consider getting an owner's manual for your car by download, etc. By the way, the '96 is redesigned so that would be too differentfrom yours. A here mentioned site is mhttp://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/owners_manuals/default.asp
I couldn't get it to work, so for now I suggest you look at this page that is part of the AutoZone site. It has the fuse block and what is supposedly conneted to each fuse.

At first it sounds like you have fuse problems, then things sound inconsistent to be that with things that both arre and aren't working on a circuit. Something happened with that wire going in or out causing chaos. I'd look for arcing that would have severed wires, joined wires in the back of the block or something got moved. I really think you have one or more fuses or wires mot right. You can try swapping like fuse around to verify they are good or not. Lastly, there is a fuse box under the hood right under the driver side wiper arm that you may also need to check. Hopefully with the fuse block diagram, you can decide which circuit you want to tap into and use a blue wire splice (clamshell like thing that you close onto the host and taping wire) that you just squeeze on to an existing wire going into the block. Good luck let us know what happen!
