I read your original post and thought to myself, this needs a professional diagnosis.
It is the first post that I have seen with that problem.
I could not think of what to suggest.
It sounds like you have it at the right place (if it is a good shop).
I almost think that the physical connection between the shifter and the transmission internals is out of alignment.
