Remote Oil Lines Modification

ok, so back when my girl first bought her 95 Jimmy it had a slight oil leak at the oil lines. About 2 years ago we bought a set of lines from NAPA and replaced them. At that time I said if I have to redo it I want to look into stainless steel braided hose since in my searches it seemed common.

Well here we are a couple years later and they are leaking again. So I looked into the ss braided lines and fittings.

We ended up ordering all the fittings and line from ANPlumbing.com, they were very helpful and good prices.

what we bought...
#165008 -8 Hard Line Tubing Adapter Qty:4
#800108 -8 Swivel-Seal Straight Hose End Qty:2
#304608 -8 45Deg Auto-Fit Hose End Qty:2
#300008 -8 Auto-Flex Hose Qty:2ft. (we ordered 4ft to have extra and be safe, now i have enough for atleast one replacement)

Totaling ~$100 whereas the lines from NAPA where ~$60. So we figure for the added ~$40 we are getting something that should hold up a lot better and something that is much easier and cheaper to replace if needed, since the hose ends are re-useable and only the hose would need to be replaced.

Anyways, my girl took some pictures along the way to show it looks. It turned out good. Haven't put oil in the car just yet, will probably today or tomorrow and then take it to a DIY car wash and clean up all the leaked oil (as you can see in the pictures).

Please excuse some of the blurring pictures as it was late at night and cold out when we were doing this.

So we first started by removing the lines from the car.

Then we cut off the rubber hose portion of the lines. Just use a hacksaw and cut nice and straight, it's aluminum so it's real easy to cut through.

Next I took a file and removed any burs from the outside and inside of the aluminum lines.

Then we attached the hard line fittings to the aluminum lines.

(Note that the bracket that mounts to the remote oil filter housing, the lines where slightly bent inward which made it impossible to put the bolt in after the fittings were installed so we installed the bolt then installed the fittings. There was enough room to fit a regular socket and extension in there though to tighten it to the housing, just something to keep in mind before you tighten the fittings down.)

Then we installed the hard lines into the car. This way I can get an accurate measurement for the ss braided hose.

Next I installed the hose ends onto the hard line fittings to measure the ss hose. I then cut the hose. See the following link on how to cut the hose, it works great!

After cutting the hose I installed the hose ends onto it. See the following link for how to install Auto-Fit and Swivel-Seal hose ends.
http://www.anplumbing.com/AUTO_FIT.html

After installing the hose ends I installed the first hose.

Then I did the same for the other hose and installed that one.

(As you can see, it does clear the crank pulley by a decent amount.)

I think it looks pretty good for my first time working with AN fittings and SS braided hose. Time will tell though how long this will last. But I take peace in the fact that if the hose does leak again I just have to remove the plastic shield, remove the lines, replace the hoses, put them back in the car, bolt the plastic shield back up again.
