Re: 1988 528E O2 indicator light won't turn off
The computer might have to be reprogrammed or "flashed". Try unhooking the battery for a couple of minutes and then reconnect it. Also just doublecheck the wire to make SURE that it is properly connected.
Other than that, you just might have to bring it into a Beamer dealership to get the computer reset.
Also on my 535i there is a check control button that helps with clearing some displays, if you have one it should be a small post on the right side of the speedometer, directly opposite the trip reset post.
