I think you are referring to the GMLAN feature. I believe that is for '02 and up GM models so you should be good. The extra harness you may be thinking of is to retain certain GM features when switching to an aftermarket radio. The only important feature lost is OnStar (if equipped). Otherwise, you lose the door chime and some irrelevant DTC code is set so it usually isn't needed.
