High RPMs, clutch problem?

I have a '98 Saturn SC2 (5 speed) that I recently purchased a few months ago. I've done the basic things you do when you buy a car, change the fluids etc.

When I purchased the car, the only thing I was worried about is that the clutch didn't engange near the floor like most, instead it enganged towards the end of the stroke right before I took my foot off the pedal. So I was worried if the clutch needed replaced.

Also, when I'm driving, no matter what gear I'm in, if I press the pedal down the RPMs go way up. In other words. If I put the pedal to the floor, the car would essentually just rev as it barely accelerated. Is this a problem with the clutch, or do I just need to replace the spring assem?

Thanks
