Make sure that both cars have the same type of rear axle. Wagons generally had all 8.5s, where sedans had 7.5s unless 9C1 or -some- Broughams, then 8.5s.

The reason? An 8.5" axle puts the yoke about an inch closer to the transmission, requiring a 1" shorter driveshaft than the 7.5", all else being equal.
