I suppose the builder should answer this but I'm confident I know what he did: two products, called Micro-Set and Micro-Sol, are used for applying complex decals. The Set is applied to the surface to aid in decal adhesion, and the sol is then applied over the decal with a brush. This causes the decal to soften and conform to the complex curves. It is very delicate while it is still wet, but after it dries the decal can be handled normally. He then applied the floor wax over the decal to protect it.

Great looking model! I need to get this kit...
