It was the 2-3 shift solenoid. The repair cost was $900.00, but I had an extended warranty. The job requires pulling the suspension carriage and four wheel re-alignment when it is complete. It is a 7 hour job. There is no ryhme or reason to solenoid failure. It also does not predict the health of the other solenoids. I am going to sell this car......
