Re: GT and SE differences?

The GT was introduced in '85, and had the same body panels as the "M" models. It did have a large wing on the deck, not shared by the lesser models. It also had the 5-speed trans as "standard". Engines were the same (V6s, that is). They also had 15" wheels, not on the SEs.

In '86, they added the large side curtains and the drooped rear. It helped a little in aerodynamics, but middle-engine cars are always "hurting" where aero issues are concerned.

It remained relatively unchanged for '87. The BIG change came in '88, when they added the Lotus Engineering suspension design. My '86 wasn't a BAD handler, but would "skate" badly if driven just a bit too hard. The '88 simply "plants" in a corner and goes around it. No comparison! The '88 is really a "sports car", unlike the "commuter vehicle" designation GM gave the line. The '88 still used pretty much the same engine/trans combination, though some were equipped with the Muncie 5-speed instead of the Isuzu.

I'm sure there are other "changes", but these are ones I know about for certain.

Helpful?
