To remove the wipers get a flat head screw driver and put it on the side of the wiper where the little tab is sticking out and push the tab away from the wiper then wiggle it off. After you have that off you can remove the wiper cowl to get a better look at things under there. Sounds like the weatherseal around the windshield is possibly bad or a seal down inside the cowl area on the driverside as the passenger side doesn't have an opening under it. Also you can check to make sure that on the driver side that the water is draining out of the opening under the cowl like it should as the drain hole might be a little clogged allowing the water to back up and seep in some.
