Air Compressor and Drier Assembly
Removal
1. Turn air suspension service switch
OFF.
2. Disconnect electrical connector located on the air compressor.
3. Disconnect two air lines from compressor air drier.
4. Remove three fasteners retaining air compressor and drier assembly to radiator support, frame rail and fender apron.
Installation
1. Position air compressor and air drier assembly to body and install three fasteners. Tighten fasteners to 9-12 N-m (80-106 lb-in).
2. Connect two air lines into compressor drier.
3. Connect electrical connector.
4. Turn air suspension service switch
ON.
Drier--Air Compressor
Removal
1. Remove air compressor drier assembly as outlined.
2. Remove compressor air drier retainer clip and screw.
3. Remove from compressor assembly.
Installation
1. Check to make sure old O-ring is not in compressor assembly.
2. Check compressor air drier end to make sure new O-ring is in proper position.
3. Insert compressor air drier into compressor assembly and install retainer clip and screw.
4. Install air compressor drier assembly as outlined.
Air Line, Nylon--Service
Note:
With the air compressor on, a soap and water solution applied to air lines will locate air leaks.
If a leak is detected in an air line, it can be serviced. First, carefully cut the line with a sharp knife to ensure a good, clean, straight cut. Then, install a service fitting. If more tube is required, it can be obtained in bulk. Refer to the Air Line Routing illustration for proper routing.
Air Spring Connector Repair Kit
If a leak is detected in any of the quick connect fittings, it can be serviced using a service kit containing a new O-ring, collet, release ring and O-ring removal tool. The outer housing of the fitting cannot be serviced.
To remove the collet and O-ring, insert a scrap piece of air line, grasp the air line firmly (do not use pliers) and pull straight out. DO NOT use the release button. A force of 130-220 N (30-50 lbs) is required to remove the collet. After the collet is removed, use the removal tool to remove the old O-ring.
To service, first make sure the seal area is free of dirt and insert the new O-ring and seat it in the bottom of the fitting housing. Then, insert the new collet, making sure the end with four prongs is inserted. Press the collet into position with finger pressure. Install the new release button.
Solenoid O-Ring
The areas that have O-ring seals that can be serviced are:
- air compressor to drier: one O-ring.
- air spring solenoid to end cap: two O-rings each air spring solenoid.
- quick connect fitting: two O-rings at compressor air drier, one O-ring at each spring and junction block.
If air leaks are detected in these areas, remove components as outlined and install new O-rings.
