if warming it up fixes the problem, then it probably is not the mode selector switch, but it might be something else that needs attention before it becomes a rebuild candidate.

what exactly were (are) your symptoms for the "paten'd range mode selector problem" ?

first on the list is what FL said, check the ATF level and condition. next, well let's hear what is happening exactly and see if it indicates the next step...
