XP with all the updates runs pretty smooth actually from what it use to be, ur laptop could just be a POS  I'm repairing one right now (girlfriend's) so far I've formatted the drive 3 times now trying to get it to load right (the OS, NT now... 98SE wasnt gonna cut it)... there is damage to the harddisk, not to bad tho... like 2-3MB is damaged out of a 10gig drive, not to worried for now. I updated her BIOS as well grabbed all the drivers and updates from manufac. Gateway =p oh fun... so once I get this thing running ill be putting it all on... just gotta find video drivers, dont even know what card is built into this thing... I think ATi b/c they had ATi 98 drivers .. but not 98SE drivers (go fig lol) and no NT vid drivers Grrrrr ... in all due time, ill have this thing running smooth, defragged, protected and cool temp'd
btw XI, pci-e ftw =) it's all on the comp's setup, it ALL has to be good parts from what I've found with pci-e in order to have it running amazing. I'm still usin AGP tho... xfx geforce 6800 xt overclocked  .. MY games... are smooooooth like silk
my cpu sucks tho, already outdated in just a matter of 3years pfft.. ram sucks too  and the MB sucks... All slow, but still holdin up to w/e I throw at it lol, I defrag prob every week... lots of DVD moving

I had an eVGA 6800GT last year, overclocked it too high and it burned up when I was playing Battlefield 2, so I sent it in and got a new one... but not before i built myself a new computer with a Radeon X1800XT and PCI-E and a dual core processor

This was about this time last year that I did that. Now I'm getting a new one already because my ex gf wanted a computer, and I have a lot of money to spare, and I can sell her my old stuff for a good price because it doesn't suck. So I get a new computer, with absolute ass-kicking parts, for like $600 after she gives me money for my old parts. Life roooccckkkksss once I get it
