I just got an '87 CRX from a friend for virtually nothing. (She ran the engine dry, and it's been sitting for a year.)

Since I'm going to put a japanese domestic motor in it anyway, I figured I'd drop in something more powerful (like a ZC, D16A1 or a D16A8/9) while I'm at it.

I'm not sure if it's an HF, DX, or Si. I *think* it's a DX with the original engine in it. The car has 138k miles, a new paint job, new clutch, and a bunch of other work that's been put into it right before she let it sit.

My question is, where can I find the engine number? After I wiped off a bunch of gunk on it, I found the letters "PEO-3" right above what looks like the left carb intake, along with the numbers 7, 5, and 11 after that. All of these were right below the head facing forward. The only other numbers I could find were the 4,3,2, and 1 numbers for the spark plugs, and "D4R85-18 7405" on a part in between the distributor cap and the engine proper.

Any other obvious signs that would let me know whether I'm looking at an HF, DX, or Si?

On another note, is $1900 too much for a JDM replacement engine? (That's installed with 2 yr/24k mile warranty and towing and tax included.)

Is it worth dropping a FI motor in a non-FI car if this is indeed a DX carburated engine? I know it would take a new ECU, clutch, flywheel, and wiring harness. I can't really finance a car right now, but I can drop some cash on improvements to this one.
