The student laptops at my school had both browsers. Everyone agreed that safari was faster, but tech support blocked it because of security problems. By security problems they meant the hidden browsing feature that could be turned on and off to delete history and autofill on websites like google so that tech support couldn't see what people were doing at home on the laptops should they perform a spot check on that student.
So for faster browsing, Safari is better. Though there might have been some to tech support's "security problems" claim.
