What exactly is wrong with the compressor and how did they arrive at this conclusion. More specifically what is wrong with your a/c. Unless the compressor has totally seized up (which most often happens if the lubricating oil leaks out) it can probably be repaired/rebuilt. I have a 2000 Metro which has a Sanden compressor and I know they sell a rebuild kit which can fix a cracked head or leaking gasket. Not sure if the bearings can be replaced if that's the problem but I'm quite sure that can be done also.
