96 regal 3800 overheating!

Hi, i have a 1996 buick regal custom 3800 with about 127,000 miles on it.. Yesterday i changed my oil and spilled a little bit of it ..sprayed it down with a degreaser and the hose let it sit before i started it i noticed i didnt coolant.. i added some went for a ride and the car was smoking(just burning oil i believe) so today driving more didnt smell the smell of burning oil didnt see smoke but my temp went up and the fans kicked on and the car was over heating so i turned the heat on and luckily i was at work and it went down.. It was only a 15-20 minute drive..driving around today and the temp was going up so i turned the heat on as the fans went on or just before they went on happened a few times within an hour.. Just wondering if i could have done something somehow or if my thermostat or water pump is bad. Any suggestions?? ( in the winter the car smoked..had a guy check it out said it was the upper intake manifold and he fixed it.. still smoked once in a while after though .)

(also unrelated question: my check engine light went on code read cylinder one misfire..autozone told me it was the sparkplugs my dad told me dont worry about it , but the car is hesitant at times is it the spark plugs or coil pack?)
