Thats exactly what I said too when I heard this may be the case. The company is not admitting that there has been a formulation change. Mobil1 took castrol (or Exxon took BP) to court stating that BP was misrepresenting their product stating that their synthetic was not a true synthetc, but a Group III oil and a group III oil is not a synthetic, but highly a refined dino oil. Long story short, Mobil lost, and so the story goes it was about this time Mobil reformulated thier synthetic oil. The kicker is their prices havn't changed and they havn't showed any proof that there wasn't a change. So if I am going to pay synthetic oil prices, I myself want to make sure I can get real synthetic oil, so for me Amsoil is my next choice.

Also about the oil filters, I agree without question using a good oil filter is highly important to the longevity of any engine.
