Yes 463 is right about the computer saving the day: if you overtorque the transmission and heat goes up, there is a temp sensor in the transmission that will eventually cause the computer to drop the TCC clutch as well as the 4th gear. I consider that an annoyance as it means the transmission has been driven past its design values; I prefer running in 3rd (D) as this allows to keep TCC engaged in 3rd, rather than letting computer hunting between 4TCC and 3noTCC. That is simply a preference.
