You can stay at the same fuel economy and add much power in the block/heads. A 350 block with flat pistons a mild cam and big valve heads usually pushes 375-400 HP. Plenty by far even for a heavy blazer. The extra power will reduce fuel costs, because you will spend less time with the skinny pedal against the carpet.

With some axle work you can get it it to climb anything or push through a river. The suspension on blazers are log wagon rough they need more flex (tire up and down). And putting axle lockers on it will having it climbing the walls.
