Re: Converting the BMW M1 Protour into a Ferrari Daytona 365 GTB/4 LeMans

small update. added the chin spoiler, made the fuel filler cut-out and did some more body prep.

chin spoiler, made from three pieces of .010 styrene. i used a carpentry contour gauge to get the shape of the front fasia, transferred that to a shieet of .010 styrene and cut it out. then i glued that to another piece of styrene and used that as a template. once i had a rough shape in .020 sytrene, i folded it in half and filed it to shape so it would be symmetrical. once i was happy with the shape, i glued it to a third piece of .010 styrene, cut it to shape, sanded it and glued it to the body with CA, followed by 5 minute epoxy for strength.

from the front (i also cut out the molded-in grille mesh. the shadow and angle of photo make it appear the spoiler is lopsided. it's not. ):

from the bottom (the small square of styrene on the fenderwell is the side of the battery; italeri figured a three-sided battery was accurate. ):

from the side (note the cutout for the fuel filler):

the fuel filler is recessed on the 1:1 car:

i cut out the fuel filler using a bit and round file, then notched it on either side with a square file. a small square of .010 styrene was then glued to the back side.

next up -- more filler and sanding before laying on some primer.

thanks for looking!
