Whats up man, welcome to the forums.
Well, since cams dont have bearings and the piston is slapping around, my guess is he meant he spun a rod bearing and the piston is possibly slapping the head. If thats the case, you pretty much better get used to operating with one arm and one leg. If it is in fact a spun rod bearing and the piston is hitting the head (doesnt always happen to my knowledge, just when the head is really decked) your motor is pretty much toast. Chances are the block and crank have been worn beyond service limits and a head thats had a piston bouncing off of it is pretty much junk. My advice to you would be to have a mechanically inclined buddy rip it apart for you and assess the damage. Its possible the engine is still machinable, but its also possible its junk too. If you have to pay someone to take it apart, rebuild it, and/or drop in a new one its going to cost a lot no matter what so I hope you got a great deal on that car.

Build on hold until I get a good paying job, either in school or once I get out. At that time a full tear down and complete rebuild should be in order.
