if you know how to work on cars then it will save you money parts can get expensive , one main common problem on the b5 platform i have encountered is the front motor mount bushing going bad , as long as you keep up the preventive maintenance things should go well .. i have 135k on my '96 and have not had much problems .. good luck !!
