Well, I can assure you that it is the door handle itself. I have replaced both of my front ones already. Just did the pass side about a month ago... The cheap diecast metal fatigues & cracks, and then it flexes enough so it wont pull the rod far enough. Soon you'll pull it right off! They are about $30 at the Chevy dealer, probably less at online places like www.gmpartsdirect.com

If you search the forum for door handle or something like that, I'm sure you'll find more detail on getting the panel off and doing the job. I remember adding that once before... Good luck!
