No, I don't have any reference material for 1988, the folks at
www.lincolnsonline.com might be able to help you in that area. You should be hearing the relays "click" as their activated. Then again, you may not have any relays in those circuits which would explain the extra stress on the light switches.
Does the switch get hot?
