In addition, line pressure in lower ranges is raised slightly to hold clutches more firmly, and the TCC will eventually lock, but only at ridiculously low load values and higher speeds. You really don't want to operate in that mode if it isn't necessary, since the trans will also run hotter.
The 1986 ECM programming left a lot to be desired in TCC management. They were a lot better just a couple yeas later.
