Tijuana police got their guns taken away this month by Mexican Feds and soldiers as part of an investigation on corruption within the force.
The Mexican Feds are testing and examining the guns to see if they can be linked with any organized crimes or drug trafficking in general, and will not say when the guns will be given back.
As a result, around 60 or so police officers were issued slingshots as a means to defend themselves. Others armed themselves with bats, and most started to patrol in packs instead of individually. Still others were escorted with armed Mexican state police.
The police are really having a real ball-busting time, not only because they have to use slingshots, but also because of death threats. Since the corruption allegations became public, regular-ass citizens have been calling the police department with death threats.
Unfortunately I couldn't find any pics of officers holding slingshots, so if your ever down in Tijuana, snap some pics.
It should be one hell of a site.
I'd like to say they deserve whatever shit that happens to them, but I am thinking, "poor basturds".
...walkin the mean streets with slingshots.
