Fujimi Porsche 964

Turns out I actually can finish something!

This is Fujimi's 964 Turbo. The box says "New Porsche 911 Turbo". As there have been Turbo 993s, 996s, and now 997s, it's really not all that new anymore. I got this one on Ebay a few years back (2000ish?). At the time I thought I was buying a 993 Turbo- the box art shows the car from the rear, and at the time I was sure 'new' couldn't refer to a 964. So when I got it I wasn't thrilled about it, and it went straight onto the pile. My cat (who was a kitten then, thankfully she's mellowed some since) appreciatively chewed the box corners. Time moved on.

Then a year or so ago, a good friend managed to score for me a kit I've been looking for since before I got this one- the elusive Revell BMW 850i (thanks again mate- your brakes are almost done! ). I started planning to do epic battle with it (I admit, I'm slightly intimidated), and got a bottle of CobraColors Porsche Arena Red Metallic in preparation.

One day in early October in a fit of frantic frenzy, I grabbed the tattered 964 box off the pile, ripped into it and started the bodywork. I had to start something (it had been that kind of week), and I reached for the closest easy curbside kit that I had paint for. I easily get 2+ builds out of a bottle of CobraColors lately, and had concluded that this color would look perfect on the 964.

It's built almost entirely out of the box. I added Klutz style carpets and not much else- theres no machined aluminum on it at all. The kit built up very easily- the only real problem was that the wheel stumps wouldn't fit into the brake discs. Fortunately a quick spin on the lathe easily fixed the wheel stumps (I didn't say there was no machining on this one). Otherwise, good litle kit- would make a fine first build.

It's probably the best paint job I've done yet. I'm really happy with how it looks. I used just under an ounce of paint, and alot of reducer. I'm looking forward to doing the 850 with the rest of it. Damnit I miss CobraColors (Come back Leon, I need more!!).

See, it's a Turbo- decal on the butt sez so. She got junk in the trunk!

I had alot of fun building this one. I love doing full engine builds, but curbsides can be great too. Why do I have so few?

It's nice to see I can put something out in less than three months. Tis is actually the first time I've posted anything in the 'Completed' section. It's nice, I'll have to try it more often. But for now, back to the machine shop....

Thanks for looking!
