Try checking the fluid level first. Sometimes low fluid levels produce such shifting problems.
If that's okay, try a fluid and filter change. Generally, this cures shifting problems about one - third of the time.
Otherwise, we would need to more info, such as make model and year of car, engine size, mileage, any related problems/ repairs, etc.
