Re: dual over head on a stock z31 block...
i've seen an l28 in a z32 before that was built for race...
anyway, don't bother with dohc'ing the et, it's really not worth your effort...
honestly man, just throw some forged slugs in there, do some extensive head porting, go for some upgraded springs and new lifters/solid lifters with bigger cams, slap on a gt40 and some 555cc injectors, all controlled by an sds with distributorless ignition and call it a day....
an rb26dett will not fit into a left hand drive z31 without extensive exhaust modifications (new manifold with single turbo to start)
hell if you really wanted to find yourself a 3.3 block and build that up... there aren't too many things you need to swap for it to drop in, and the stuff that does need to be swapped can be upgraded in the process (knife edge and balance crank etc.
concerning the vg30de it will fit in the z31, as it came stock in the 300ZR sold in japan in the later 80's... and there are such things as the VG30DET, as sold in the nissan Cedric in the early 90's. so it does fit, it's just super tight and not really worth the money to convert when there's so many high hp vge's running around
