Smile Re: Which oil filter should I use?

Unlike sparkplugs (and few other parts) the oil filter has but one job, to filter the oil. Personally I was always more concerned about the best filtration possible, and never really paid much attention to the name on the label. I looked at every oil filter out there and settled on the K&N for the following reasons:
  • Sturdy 1" wrench nut makes oil filter removal very quick and easy. It's by far the easisest filter to install and remove.
  • The best resin-impregnated filter media that provides maximum filtering surface for contaminant removal. This allows for higher flow rates while providing outstanding filtration.
  • Designed to work best with Synthetic Motor Oils.
  • Anti-drainback valve eliminates dry starts where most wear and tear first occurs. It prevents oil from draining back into crankcase during engine shutdown.
  • Rolled threads provide extra protection against stripping.
  • The resin that holds the media fibers together, and at the same time keeps the "pores" open by keeping the fibers apart, is designed for high performance racing.

When I studied medicine I was surprised at how much work the liver actually does. One way to look at the cars oil filter is that it is like the cars liver I want my car to be as 'healthy' as possible, so to me it just makes sense to use the filter that filters best and protect the engine as much as possible
