It's not that bad. I've not changed mine but I pulled them out when I rebuilt the front end on my '88. I followed the Haynes manual to some extent but I had the upper and lowed ball joints out so the wheel assembly flopped around and it was easy to get the CV shaft out of the hub just by pulling it by hand. The Haynes says to remove the hub cap and break the hub nut loose. Raise the truck and remove the nut and washer, the skid plate and the stabilizer bar then separate the inner tie rods from the relay rod. Remove the CV flange bolts (I say break these loose while the truck is still on the ground) then use a puller to push the outer axle end out of the hub assembly. Nothing special about installation but I'd repack the bearing if you haven't while you're in there. Overall it's a whole lot easier than a front wheel drive car.
